Average Day in the Life of Jaedyn
My grandma on my dad's side was really important to me. She always told me to stay true to myself. I enjoyed her sense of humor and her feelings about not allowing "white" women to do my hair. One time I was having a talk with my grandma about my hair. Her advise to me was to not let white women other than your mom or older sister, Raven do my hair. She really liked my mom and Raven not saying anything negative about them. However, she didn't approve of my dad's girlfriend doing my hair because of the color of her skin. I don't think my grandma was a racist person however she struggled with our generation and what's going on.
I have so many fond memories of my grandma. She was open to talking about anything with my younger sister and I. When things were going downhill with my dad she would always say, "he's being silly and needs to get his act right." When she met my niece, Gianna she fell for her right away. She had a deep connection with Gianna and Raven (Gianna's mom). It was great to see my grandma so happy.
The last couple of years my grandma's health deteriorated. She was in and out of the hospital with multiple health issues. She was on dialysis which took a lot of her energy. Unfortunately, she passed away this past year. Before she died my Uncle Mark and her would pick up my sister and I to go out to eat. Typically my grandma didn't leave the home very much so it was always nice to see her. It made me upset that her kids didn't really care about her being alone all the time and feeding her the same thing every day. I'll cherish the times that I got to spend with her both when I was little and before she died. She was an amazing woman.
